Annual workshops will be held, to bring all PhD candidates, supervisors and African Universities partners together. The main emphasis is on sharing the results of the individual projects and the common approach of modernized mixtures. The first workshop was held in December 2006. In this kick-off workshop all partners presented their visions on the concept of Modernised Mixtures Approach (link to be added). The second workshop took place in Kisumu (Kenya) in 2007 and handled the tackling of the urban run-off problem in the Lake Victoria region (link to be added). The third workshop was held in Arusha (Tanzania) in 2008, partly on socio-economic instruments in waste and sanitation systems and the MCDA/PrOACT method (link to be added). In 2009, the fourth workshop was arranged in Kampala (Uganda) and had as central topic the efficient placing of scientific results in the sanitation and waste system level context (link to be added). The next workshop will be held in 2010 in the Netherlands. ConferencesBi-annual conferences are held to strengthen collaboration and dialogues between universities, NGOs, national and local governmental institutions and international donors involved in the management of (project on) urban sanitary and solid waste infrastructures in East Africa. The main challenge is to engage all actors in the development of new, creative solutions to the governance challenges facing the East African region.
